GitHub Status Indicators & What They Mean
GitHub uses standardized status indicators to communicate the real-time health of its platform. These indicators are published through GitHub’s official status system and help users quickly understand whether services are operating normally or experiencing issues.
Each indicator represents the severity level of a current incident:
Operational (indicator: none)
All GitHub services are functioning normally. Repository access, Git operations, APIs, and automation tools like GitHub Actions are working as expected.
Partial Disruption (indicator: minor)
Some GitHub services may be degraded. Users might experience slower response times, intermittent errors, or limited functionality in specific areas such as Actions, Issues, or API requests.
Major Outage (indicator: major)
Multiple GitHub services are unavailable or failing. Core features like pushing code, accessing repositories, or running workflows may be significantly impacted for many users.
Critical Outage (indicator: critical)
This indicates a severe, platform-wide disruption. Most GitHub services are affected, and access may be unavailable for a large portion of users until the issue is resolved.
